This process can be repeated over several rounds, and then a fresh question can be posed once all perspectives on the first one appear to have been absorbed. In this second round, the question can be considered in pairs before all students then move to a fresh partner for the first round of the new speed-dating activity.
The first step is to settle upon the most important areas of comparison and contrast. Some of these are transferable whoever is being studied: Others though need to be tailored to the particular topic: Once these have been decided, the next step is for each student to research one key individual in order to make notes under the chosen headings.

Requirement for each event vary with the organizer. Specific age range based on gender is a common restriction for events. Many speed dating events are targeted at particular communities: Some feel that speed dating has some obvious advantages over most other venues for meeting people, such as bars, discotheques , etc. Unlike many bars, a speed dating event will, by necessity, be quiet enough for people to talk comfortably.
Participants can come alone without feeling out of place; alternatively it is something that women who like to go out in groups can do together. Because the matching itself happens after the event, people do not feel pressured to select or reject each other in person. On the other hand, feedback and gratification are delayed as participants must wait a day or two for their results to come in. The time limit ensures that a participant will not be stuck with a boorish match for very long, and prevents participants from monopolizing one another's time.

One of the advantages that speed dating has over online speed dating and online dating in general is that when being face to face with someone, one gets a better sense of who they are due to their body language, gestures, tonality and more. There have been several studies of the round-robin dating systems themselves, as well as studies of interpersonal attraction that are relevant to these events.
In the graphic below, these students shared the same letter. Together, the duo is assigned a person during the Progressive Era that was either a muckraker or reformer. Together, they read a short biography and had the opportunity to do some online research. To make the assignment a little more interesting, I printed out masks for each historical person they were about to meet. As groups are working, I would walk around to make sure the information that is being gathered is not only correct but that it answers the questions that are provided to the students via the Dating Profile.
Using the "Speed Dating" Model to Enhance Student Learning
It takes some careful planning to ensure that they groups rotate accordingly. As shown in the graphic, the 12 students sitting in a red circle area did not move during the Speed Dating activity. Students sitting in the green circle moved each time they were asked to rotate.
By doing so, all 12 historical people will be showcased to all 24 students. To organize even further, students who remained seated always started the date first by introducing who they were, with their printed mask on. As students listened and rotated through the stations, they filled out their matrix highlighting what the historical person was most known for and the problems they sought to address.
Each date lasted 6 minutes with roughly 3 minutes per person. At this point, they have met the 11 other historical people. Now, they must decide which historical figure they would want to meet up with for a second date or meeting based on their dating profiles. This is a component on their Dating Matrix.
